Fastco Industries has complete cold forming manufacturing capabilities to produce stainless steel 302, 304, 316, 410, and 430 cold headed studs, rivets, pins, bolts, and specials to your exact specifications to extremely tight tolerances, prototype through production. The process of cold forming does not cut any material away in order to form the new part. Consequently, there is a minimal amount of material waste for high efficiency which lowers the overall cost of raw materials. All Fastco cold headed fasteners are proudly Made in the USA in our manufacturing facilities.
Stainless steel can be difficult material from which to form parts, but it is popular across many industries due to its remarkable corrosion resistance. Cold forming is the superior method to form with stainless steel because it does not require heating, making for a safer and more energy (and cost!) efficient process.
Austenitic stainless steel grades such as 302 and 304 are highly formable. Other grades, such as high-temperature alloys like A286, martensitic stainless steel like 410, or ferritic steels like 430, are more difficult to form. These stainless grades are strong and hard materials. Ferritic and martensitic steels are also magnetic.
If you are searching for the best type of stainless steel for your application, send us a request for quote. Our engineers are experts at cold forming and can help offer guidance on the best, most formable material for your application.
302 stainless steel is a very rugged, ductile grade that demonstrates superior corrosion resistance. It is noted for its ease of fabrication and formability in its annealed condition.
304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. It contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%) metals as the main non-iron components. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel and is essentially non-magnetic. It has a higher corrosion resistance than regular steel and is widely used because of the ease that it can be formed into shapes.
